Jacob Craig Quickel, 77, of Casper, passed away August 4, 2014 at Wyoming Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Newton, NC to Richard and Louise Quickel, Jake graduated from Central High School in Charlotte, NC and North Carolina State University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts. He went on to earn his Master's degree in Education from the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico while serving at Fort Buchanan in San Juan.
Jake served proudly and honorably in the United States Army for 22 years until retiring and moving to Casper in 1980 where he taught Army ROTC courses at Natrona County High School and served as a member of the Natrona County Sheriff's Reserve.
In moments of leisure, Jake enjoyed taking part in cavalry reenactments which allowed him the opportunity to contribute to several major motion picture and television productions. He was an avid reader, historian, and hunter who loved his horses and the wide open spaces of Wyoming.
Jake is survived by his daughter, Sharon Lynne Donovan of Casper; brother, Richard Quickel and wife Margaret of Waynesboro, VA; sister, Ann McNabb and husband Dick of Crockett, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Louise Quickel; brother, Carroll Quickel; sister, Jean Yeager, and nephew, Kent McNabb.
A memorial service will be held Friday August 15 at 11:00 AM at Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery in Evansville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that special donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or a special charity of individual choosing.
