J. Kirby Black, 79, a beloved husband, father and grandfather and great grandfather, passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at Life Care Center of Casper. Kirby was born March 7, 1935 in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He graduated from Oak Ridge, TN HS in 1953 and attended college at Tennessee Technical Institution obtaining a degree in History Education.
Kirby moved to Wyoming in 1960 and taught history at East Junior High and then went to work for the state of Wyoming, Job Service Division for the next 37 years until his retirement. Kirby and his family are active members of First Christian Church, Casper where he served as an Elder, youth leader, Boy Scout Committee member and numerous committee chairs. He also was involved with the Lions Club of Casper, the Casper College Photography Club and Izaac Walton League. Hobbies included a love of classic cars, genealogy and traveling, including many camping trips throughout the years with his family!
Kirby is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty (Trescott) Black, 3 sons, G. Russell Black (Julie), Brian Black (Jennifer), Rick Black (Teri) as well 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and one sister, Suzanne (Black) O'Donnell. He is preceded in death by his parents, B. Eugene and Joan Black and one son, Kenneth Lee Black.
A service will be held to celebrate Kirby's life on Monday, August 11, 2014 at First Christian Church, 520 CY Avenue, Casper, at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Wills, Trusts, Scholarships and Memorials Fund at First Christian Church.
