J G (Jim) Davis II passed away January 13, 2009. He was 83 yrs old.

He was born Oct 2, 1925 in Denver CO to J Gilbert Davis and Norma Wilhelmina (Daenitz) Davis. He was baptized and made his confession into the Christian faith at Grace Episcopal Church in Denver and graduated from Ponca City High School, Ponca City, OK, in 1942 and joined the US Army. As a corporal, he served in the south Pacific as a 105 mm Howitzer gunner. When Jim was released from the service, he returned to Tulsa where he attended the University of Tulsa, graduating in 1950 with a BS in Petroleum Engineering and a master's degree in 1951. While there, he married Shirley May Pollock September 1, 1949. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He began working for Continental Oil Company in the field at Big Spring, TX. Over the next 20 years, he was transferred several times between Ponca City, OK, Cody, WY, Denver, CO and Lynch, WY where he was head engineer. He was awarded the Certificate of Registration for Professional Engineers from both OK and WY. Along with his work at Conoco, Jim was also co-owner of a ranch near Lynch with dear friend, Larry Burgess. By this time, three sons had been born to them; Grant, Evan and Scott.

In 1957, Jim was issued a teaching certificate for Instructor of Vocational Education in Trades and Industry: Petroleum. In March of 1961, they moved to Casper. Jim was active in the Casper chapter of AIMME (American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering) and was president of the Wyoming section in 1963. The Davis' separated and Jim married Mary Lou Ann Snyder in January, 1964 in Casper, with her three children Dallas, "Cass", and Shelley.

Jim was transferred back to Ponca City and then moved to Morgantown, WV to continue his education. Jim was a member of Phi Kappa Phi Fraternity while there. He received his Master's Degree in Mining Engineering from West Virginia University in 1977 also attaining the Fire Boss certificate, Shot Firer's Certificate, and Coal Miner's Certificate. His research work caused Conoco and the rest of America to conclude that it was not efficient to import oil shale from the Jakarta area of Indonesia, making a significant impact on the focus of the world energy situation at that time. After 17 years, he and Mary Lou Ann divorced. Jim moved back to Casper where he met and married Ellen Riggs on January 1, 1982. He transferred with Conoco Oil to Anchorage, AL where he worked at Purdue Bay at the beginning point of the Alaska Pipe Line on the Northern Slope engineering crew quarters in a area previously thought too expensive to do so, completing the project for 1/2 the cost. They moved from there to the United Arab Emirates. This was at the time of the Persian Gulf Wars, and Jim would be transferred by helicopter during the dark of night to avoid unfriendly fire, as he engineered living quarters built on oil platforms. Jim retired from Conoco in 1988 to Tucson, AZ. The Davis' relocated to Casper in 1992 to be closer to family and friends.

Jim was proud of his nearly 40 years of service to Conoco Oil and holds several patents because of his work there. At his time of retirement he was only one of four company-wide to achieve their highest rank of Senior Engineering Professional, resulting in him doing consulting work company and world-wide. Jim and Ellen enjoyed traveling and visited dozens of countries around the world He enjoyed fishing, rock hunting, guns (and even held a Firearms License) and spelunking in his retirement and went out with his sons and friends as often as possible. He became an active member of Walking With Christ ministries in Mills, serving as Chair of the Trustees.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister. He leaves behind wife, Ellen, sons Grant (Carol) Barnum of Osage Beach, MO, Evan (Regena) Barnum and Scott (Jan) Barnum all of Colby, KS and 7 grandchildren.
