CASPER -- Private burial for Ivona "Vonnie" Grace Jensen, 82, and her late husband, Harold, will be held at Highland Cemetery at a later date.
She died April 7, 2007, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center after years of courageous battles with numerous medical conditions..
She was born Jan. 21, 1925, in Boulder, Colo., the daughter of Charles Earnest Nesmith and Goldie Adell (Lorance) Nesmith.
She grew up on a poultry ranch and dairy farm until she was 9 years old. Then due to her mother's failing health, they moved to Casper to be nearer to family. She graduated from NCHS in 1943 and worked in the family business, Cooks Potato Flake Co., a well known business in Casper.
After the business was closed, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the Casper Winnebago Club.
She married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Harold M. Jensen, on Aug. 6, 1944 . The wedding took place in Trenton, N.J., when he was on leave while serving in the Army during WWII in France and Italy.
They were married 60 years and made their home in Casper with their four children. He preceded her in death on May 13, 2004 at the age of 82.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Her interests included her love of cats, emailing family on her computer, gardening, rock collecting, bowling, RVing, sewing, crochet, knitting and her beautiful cross-stitched works of art. She passed many of the talents on to her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include three daughters and one son, Carole Lee Garner and husband of Yukon, Okla.; Linda Jean Heagney and husband of Katy, Texas; Val Jean Shuler and husband of Casper and Jerry Lynn Jensen and wife of Cedaredge, Colo.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and siblings, Verva Bennett; Leatha Myres; Milton Nesmith; Earl Nesmith and Homer Nesmith.
Cremation has taken place at Newcomer Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Casper Humane Society, 849 East "E" St., Casper, or a charity of the donor's choice.
