Iva May VanBuskirk, 95, of Casper, WY and formerly of Hayden, CO passed away Nov. 2, 2009.
She was born Aug. 18, 1914 in Hayden, CO the daughter of Henry (Dick) and Myrtle L. Fiske Kitchens. She was a graduate of Hayden Union High School in 1933. She was united in marriage to Max J. Chavez in 1933 and later divorced. Iva May was then united in marriage to Ronnie VanBuskirk and he preceded her in death. She owned and managed many restaurants in the Casper area. She was a member of the Eagles lodge and The Church of Christ. She was known for her vibrant personality and her sense of humor. She loved to fish and enjoyed spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughter, Dee Chavis Wenger and her husband, Vern and a son, Max J. Chavis Jr., both of Casper, WY. There are four grandchildren, Iva Kathleen Sternberg and her husband, Tom, Jeff Chavis, Calista Chavis and Dele Fitzgerald, six great-grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. Also surviving are two sisters, Roberta Downs and Willette Stanley and two brothers, Lemuel and Milton Kitchens. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Kitchens and a sister, Ruby Kitchens.
Funeral services will be Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, 2:00 PM at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 710 E. 2nd, Casper, WY. with Pastor John Larramendy officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to Alcova Baptist Church, P.O. Box 6, Alcova, WY 82620.
