Irene (Matuszewski) Brown, 96, passed away at the Shepherd of the Valley Nursing Home on Tuesday, December 20. She was born in Lemont, IL to immigrant parents, Andrew and Stella (Kowalski) Matuszewski. She was married to William L. "Bud" Brown at SS. Cyrillus and Methodius on Thanksgiving Eve, November 20, 1941. They moved to Casper, Wyoming in 1946 after Bud found work here as an ironworker. Prior to her marriage she worked at the Illinois Pure Aluminum company.
In Casper she was a wife, mother, a homemaker who enjoyed her home extension and pinochle clubs. Later in life bingo was her game until macular degeneration stole her sight. She followed her son's sports activities avidly and enjoyed listening to the Rockies baseball games on the radio. She was not a hunter herself, but because wild meat sustained the family over many a winter, she was a skillful backup driver on the "hunts" and an excellent cook, noted for her apple pies. She was a member of St. Anthony's Church.
She is survived by one sister Isabel Powers/Burkhart of Justice, IL and children; Marlyn Black, Gary Brown (Pam Atkins), of Casper; and Bill Brown (Lois) of Cody, and grandchildren; Michael Brown and Carrie Brown of Powell, Jim Brown (Marianne), Princeton, NC, Kalia Thompson, Laramie, Kristi (Gabe) Steele, Golden, CO. Eileen (Steve) Ford, Casper, WY., and Sam ( Dennis) Carrick, Casper, WY., Racille Brown, Billings, MT., and Frank Brown, Lovell, WY.; three step-grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sisters; Betty (Kozlowski), Connie (Kolzlowski), Dora (Gorres), and Marie (Nurczyk).
