Hughes Tucker was born to Emmit and Ole Mae Tucker in Ocilla Georgia on Sept. 1, 1927 at only the seventh month into her pregnancy. Doctors did not expect him to live because he was so tiny that his bottom could fit into a coffee cup. However, he thrived and became the oldest of 4 children: Hughes, Drew, Sarah, and George. He came to Wyoming because he said that he could not find a girl to marry in Georgia that he wasn't related to. Also, Wyoming's "wide open spaces" appealed to him so, he moved to the state in 1949.
He met Iona Stinson at the Wagon Wheel roller skating rink and married her on May 6, 1950. He loved to tinker with things, so he supported his wife and 5 daughters as a T.V. repairman for many years. He remained in Casper for the rest of his life since he was the kind of man who put down deep roots. He, even, lived in the same house in which he raised his "girls" until he moved to the Poplar Living Center in 2001, when his health declined.
Hughes enjoyed doing many things such as fishing, tinkering, and reading non fiction books. Astronomy and science were his favorite subjects. He also loved food, prepared and eaten while surrounded by family whether at the family home, in a park or by the lake. He enjoyed cooking, and sharing his recipes too. However, is favorite activity was reading the scriptures. He would sometimes read in the bathtub until he fell asleep one time and dropped his favorite bible in the water. He dried it out and still read it.
As prime Georgia farm boy stock who loved playing in the outdoors, he liked doing thinks in his yard. There were rows of melons, strawberries, peppers, potatoes, beans, squash and much more. The hedges around the house got a "haircut" every 3 months, and there was plenty of room in his garden for a plethora of flowers.
Family was very important to him. He would say, "you don't have to have a lot of money to do things with your family." So there were many picnics, trips to the lake, bicycle rides, candy making in the kitchen and chit-chats on the porch. He liked doing things with his girls. He would draw me a "jeanie with light brown hair" on a piece of paper that I could cut out and play with like a paper doll. He called his girls every week from the nursing home to "catch up."
He is survived by 4 Daughters - Linda (Harold) Buffalow, Carolyn (Jim) Hamby, Ramona (Matthew) Hickok, Regina L. Jozwik; Brother - Drew (Debbi) Tucker; Sister - Sarah (George) Eldridge; 8 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Wife, Iona V. (Stinson) Tucker, Daughter, Vivian Martin, Brother, George Tucker.
