Howard William 'Bill' Ukele
RIFLE, Colo. -- Funeral services for Casper resident Howard William "Bill" Ukele, 64, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Rifle Funeral Home in Rifle. The Rev. James Warn of First Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate.
He died at his home April 9, 2006, after a 4 1/2-year battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).
Born Sept. 28, 1941, in Silt, Colo., to Mark and Esther (Hasselbush) Ukele, he graduated from Silt Union High School in 1959. He attended Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction, Colo., and in 1970 he graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting from Western State College in Gunnison, Colo.
In 1961 he married Bertha Lynn Taylor.
In 1970 he began working for ElmerFox and Co. CPA in Casper. He later went to work for Burton and Hawks, and finished his career with Western Environmental, until retiring due to health reasons.
A high school athlete, his love of sports continued throughout his life. He played in the city leagues in Rifle, both in basketball and softball. In Casper he coached his two sons in Little League Baseball and served on the board of directors of Midget Football. He was an avid golfer and loved to play and watch the game. He also enjoyed watching his favorite Colorado teams.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Ukele of Casper; two sons, both of Casper, Don and Gary Ukele, and their wives; his mother, Esther Ukele of Grand Junction; a sister, Betty Houseman and her husband of Grand Junction; a brother, Bob Ukele and his wife of Bloomfield, N.M.; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Ed Ukele, also from ALS; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and a nephew.
