Hilda Heinrich, 90, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010, at Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY. She was born on December 27, 1919, in Arapahoe, WY, the 6th of 17 children of Elizabeth and Jacob Schlager who were German immigrants to the United States from Merkel, Russia. On June 3, 1945, she married her World War II Marine fiancé, John Heinrich, in Torrington, WY. They farmed in Morrill, Nebraska, and Buffalo Gap, South Dakota, before retiring in 1975 to Chadron, Nebraska. While in Chadron, Hilda did volunteer work for RSVP and The Chadron Record. In 2007, Hilda moved to Park Place Assisted Living in Casper, and resided there for two years before moving to Shepard of the Valley Care Center, also in Casper.
Preceding her in death were her husband, John; brothers, Walter, Victor, Alex, Albert, Elmer, and Theodore Schlager; and sisters, Pauline Helzer and Freida Debus.
She is survived by her three children, Jon Heinrich of Grand Island, NE, Jennifer Walker and husband Bucky, of Casper, WY, and Boni Wass and husband Rick, of Douglas, WY; as well as five grandchildren, Eric and Erin Walker and Jillian, Brianna, and Kyle Wass; Survivors also include brothers, Ruben, Robert, Harry, Lawrence, and William Schlager; sisters, Rose Schwartz, Clara Costopoulos, and Wilma Ward; and many nieces and nephews.
At Hilda's request there will be no public service or burial. Her remains will be placed alongside her husband's at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota. Memorial contributions would be appreciated in Hilda's name at Shepard of the Valley Care Center or Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Casper.
Hilda's legacy lives on in the beautiful family she created, nurtured, and shared with the world.
