Hershel Henry Wickett, 87, of Glenrock, Wyoming passed away, surrounded by his family on November 11, 2013. He was born on September 24, 1926, in Jacksonville, Arkansas to Merl H. and Ethel E. Wickett. In May of 1943, at the age of 16, he joined the Navy and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1946. While stationed in San Diego he met his future wife, Lillian L. Fronk of Bondurant Wyoming who was also serving in the Navy. They were married in Jackson, Wyoming on March 21, 1946. In their 61 years together they had four children. Hershel began a long career as an electrician when employed by Continental Oil Company at Circle Ridge Wyoming and in 1954 was transferred to Glenrock, Wyoming where they resided until death. In 1958 he started his own company, Wickett Electric, and that is where he stayed for the next 50 years, working with his son by his side until his health declined.
Hershel enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Hershel was active in many civic and fraternal organizations. He was a long time member of the Glenrock I.O.O.F. Lodge #24 where he served in various offices including the Noble Grand. He also served as Grand Master of Wyoming in 1979-80, Past Chief Patriarch of the Encampment #9, and as Department Commander of the Patriarch Militant of Wyoming I.O.O.F.
Hershel was a loving and patient family man who put up with numerous trials and tribulations that now bring laughter when shared at family gatherings. It was not unusual to drive by his house every day and see his house full of friends and family gathered around the breakfast table. He was a role-model to all and taught us patience, work ethic and deep values that will live long within our hearts.
He is survived by his children: Hershel "Hummer" (Twink) Wickett; Carolyn (Tony) Lehner; Debbie (Darby) Roe; and Patty (Larry) Baughman; all of Glenrock, Wyoming; siblings: Laura Duke and Melba (Bobby) Kerr of Arkansas; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lillian, and brother Merl "Buddy" Wickett.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Community Baptist Church in Glenrock. A reception will follow at the Glenrock Senior Center.
