Herman Riecken

December 31, 1929 — March 19, 2014

Herman "Bud" Riecken, 84, of Casper, passed away Wednesday March 19th, 2014.

He was born to the late Claus and Christine Riecken, December 31st, 1929, in Kellinghusen, Germany. The family emigrated to the United States in March, 1930. He grew up in Moorcroft, WY and Sandpoint, ID. Growing up he ONLY wanted to be a cowboy!!! He eventually moved to Casper, WY and married the late Joyce Leigh Hill in 1962. They were happily married for 34 years. They had a home where you always ate supper at the table and you finished everything on your plate. It was a very loving home where family always gathered.

Bud was known for his hard work and kind heart. His main job was was a heavy equipment operator building roads in Wyoming. After retiring, he continued working at his own welding shop where he could out lift/out build/ and out weld most of the competition in Casper. Everyone new that if Bud built something, it would never fall apart, but he didn't ever want paid very much, he was more interested in helping people do what needed to get done. In his spare time, he could be seen building a new carport for his daughter, building a swing set from scratch for his great grand daughter or work on a roof for his neighbor. All these things he was doing for people, friends and family for no charge, he just wanted to show up and do something for you or find a great deal at an auction and give something to you. He loved to work, was generous with his talents and loved his family & friends. He also liked working in his garden and giving snacks to his dogs.

Bud is survived by his sister Marge, Fort Worth, TX, brothers Hugo (Leslie), Golden, CO, and Paul (Marcella) Weatherford, TX and numerous nieces and nephews. Bud is also survived by two daughters: Linda Koerber-Hughes; and Sonja Huff. Three grandchildren: Rick Koerber; Katrina Huff; and Todd Huff. Also, nine great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents Claus and Christine Riecken, sister Hilda Aldrich Vineland, NJ and wife Joyce Leigh Riecken of Casper.

A viewing will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home from 5-7p.m. on Tuesday evening. The funeral service will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home Wednesday at 11:00a.m. followed by burial at Highland Cemetery.
