Herbert "Paco" Tholl, 91, passed away July 1, 2018 at Wyoming Medical Center of natural causes surrounded by family. He was born November 25, 1926 in Casper to Herman and Elsie (Branum) Tholl, the 4th of 11 children. He spent his younger years in Barnum, Wyoming on the family ranch. Herb met many people during these years and many memories were made, which became the basis for his writing and storytelling of later years. He left home at the age of 16 in order to travel the countryside.
Herb met the love of his life Dorothy (Dunblazier) Tholl in 1949 and married February 9, 1951. He left for the Korean war shortly thereafter topping out at Sergeant First Class (T) and was in several battles including Heartbreak Ridge in which he was one of 5 men left standing. He was awarded metals such as the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Distinguished Unit Citation, and Combat Infantry Badge.
Upon his return he and Dorothy started their family and he began working at the Amico Refinery. His daughter, Peggy was born in 1952 and Son, Neil was born in 1955. He found employment with Electric Service Company beginning his career as an oilfield electrician. Herb along with partner Dan Chandler founded Statewide Electric in 1969, which was considered the elite oilfield electric company in the state of Wyoming at the time. He retired and sold the business in 1980 due health concerns. He and Dorothy enjoyed retirement years with traveling bus tours, Kasper Krafts, and helping raise their 4 grandsons (William Jr, Justin, Andy, and Chris).
Herb enjoyed gardening, working in his woodshop, writing poetry, and tinkering around their 8 acres along the river. He enjoyed being on the river until his failing health required his move into a house in town with his grandson (Justin) and family where he resided until his death.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 67 years, Daughter Peggy (William) Scott, Grandsons William Jr Scott, Justin (Reagan) Scott, Andy Tholl, Chris (Candace) Tholl, Great grandchildren (William, Jordynn, Katie, Josslyn, Layne and Korbyn) and sister Treva (Jay) Hensley. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bob, Buster, Donald, Fred, Gene, Merlin, and Eldon and sisters Mary and Claudia as well as his son Neil.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery with U.S. Army Honors. A reception will follow.
