Herbert Taylor

Herbert "Jean" Taylor was born in Plains, Kansas on June 6, 1921 to Herbert R. and Maurine (Little) Taylor. He attended Plains schools until 1937 when the family moved to Wichita. He graduated from North High in Wichita in 1940.
After attending Wichita University, he worked for TWA airlines for a short period and then became associated with the U. S. Weather Bureau. He was stationed at Rapid City, SO and North Platte, NE as the radiosonde supervisor before being transferred to Casper in 1945. He spent five years in the Life insurance business in the 1950's, then returned to the Weather Service where he retired in 1978 with 30 years service. He worked at the weather station at Wardwell Field and had vivid memories of the "winter of 49" and assisted with the move of the weather station to Natrona County Airport, the former Casper Army Air Base, in 1950.¬
Following his retirement from the Weather Service, he worked for ten years at Hilltop National Bank as a courier and mailroom supervisor.
He was married to Connie M. McGuire, in 1946, in the old First Christian Church tabernacle on South Grant Street. She preceded him in death in 1995. He was active in First Christian Church through the years, having been a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir, a Deacon and Bder. He was proud of having helped build, along with others of the congregation, the present ~nctuary on CY Avenue.
He was a member of the post WWII Casper Jaycees. A64 year and life member of both Casper Masonic Lodge #15 AF&AM and the Scottish Rite. He was an Honorary 33 . in the Scottish Rite, a past President and past Secretary of the Casper Scottish Rite Consistory Oub. For more than 25 years he was Director of the 26th Degree team for the Scottish Rite. A member of Korein Shrine, past Chaplain of the Casper Shrine Club and was a past president, past Secretary and is Director of the Korein Oriental Band and served as its Historian. He served for many years as Secretary-Treasurer of the Sand's End Oub of the Shrine Club. He also was a member of AARP and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
He was a Charter Member and Past President of Mended Hearts Chapter #242 in Casper and enjoyed working in the Heart Association booth at health fairs at schools in in the area. He served as volunteer and enthusiastic supporter of the Casper Senior Citizen's Center and is a current member of the board of Directors of the Center..
His interests in retirement also included Genealogy, travel and locating distant cousins. His last two trips to Scotland were made with his loving companion, the late Betty Lou Cox, who shared his many interests. He was a member of several Genealogical Societies around the country, including the Natrona County Historical Society.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, in 1995, his parents and his loving companion Betty Lou Cox. He is survived by one son, Larry C. Taylor and his wife Regina, of Casper, four grandchildren, Nicole, Ray, Dusti and Jessie, two great-granddaughters, a sister Betty M. Peak and brother Richard C. Taylor, both of Wichita, Kansas and a number of nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Memorials in place of flowers, may be made to the Central Wyoming Senior Center, The Scottish Rite Foundation's Childhood Language Clinic, 1820 Capitol Ave,Cheyenne, WY. Memorial services will be announced in the Spring. Newcomer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
