Helena L. Kettle, 86, passed away peacefully at home on July 6th.
She was born on March 2, 1927 in Wallace, NE to William Sr. and Elsie Kuhl. She attended school through grade 10. At that time she stayed home to help her parents on the farm and help raise her sister and brothers.
August 10, 1946 she married Richard E. Klapal. They had two daughters, Regina and Elaine. In 1965 they moved to Rock Springs, WY. Richard and Helena worked together on the Union Pacific Railroad traveling the western United States cooking for the track repairmen. In 1966 Helena stayed home to raise their daughters after Richard's death. She worked and managed the A & W Drive Inn Restaurant in Rock Springs for two years.
July 6, 1968 she married Johnnie Kettle. Helena enjoyed camping and fishing and spending time with family and friends.
In January of 1984 Helena moved to Casper, WY to be near her daughters and grandchildren. Over the next several years she volunteered for many organizations including the Eagles Auxiliary and March of Dimes. She also was a care giver to young children including her three grandchildren, Stacey, Carey and Kelley Marie.
Helena was a member of the First Christian Church, American Legion for 19 years, and the Eagles Auxiliary for 43 years.
Helena is survived by her daughters, Regina Brown and Elaine Umbach, both of Casper. Three brothers, Harvey(Lee) Kuhl of Santa Maria, CA, William Jr. (Sarah) Kuhl of Hershey, NE and Bernard (Marilyn) Kuhl of Lee, Florida. Three grandchildren, Stacey (Kelly) Umbach of Casper, Carey (Jennifer) Umbach of Cheyenne and Kelley Marie Lackey of Casper and four great grandchildren, Hayden, Emma, Austin and Chase.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Richard, son Kelley at birth, her parents and siblings Albert and Alberta.
A memorial service is scheduled for July 27 at 10am at the Holiday Inn Casper East 721 Granite Peak Dr, Casper, WY, 82609. In lieu of flowers – please send donations to Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions, Casper Wy.
