H. Boyd Moreland, 86, of Casper, passed away Friday, February 24, 2017 at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center in Casper. Boyd was born December 5, 1930 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Howard and Marjorie (Boyd) Moreland. Boyd enlisted in the United States Army in 1949 and served in Korea until 1952. He received three Purple Hearts for serving in the Korean War. He married JoAnn Smith, his wife on December 28, 1953. He received his Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering from Colorado School of Mines in 1956. The family moved to Illinois and later to Oklahoma where Boyd was employed at Texaco as a Petroleum Engineer. He received his Master's Degree of Petroleum Engineering from the University of Tulsa in 1961.
In 1962, the family moved to Saudi Arabia where Boyd worked for Saudi Aramco. In 1967, the family relocated to Casper where Boyd worked for Texaco and later as an independent Petroleum Engineer. Casper is where they eventually settled and called home. Boyd was a lover of the arts especially classical music. He was a staunch conservative and conservationist; an avid reader of history and of other cultures. Boyd was a lover of baseball and lifelong fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals. JoAnn and Boyd loved to travel and have traveled the world, they were true adventurers together. They enjoyed their winters in Kona, Hawaii and later in Green Valley, Arizona.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife of 62 years, JoAnn. He is survived by his daughter, Connie (Gene) Wallace of Casper, WY; son, H. B. (Nancy) Moreland of Kingwood, Texas; grandchildren, Mitchell, a student at Oklahoma State University, Daniel, a senior at Kingwood High School, planning to attend the University of Texas at Austin, and Katherine, a sophomore at Kingwood High School; sister, Carolyn (Dave) Brines, a niece, Teri and 3 nephews, Dave, Rob, and Mike.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00pm, Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Oregon Trail State Veteran's Cemetery Chapel in Evansville, Wyoming. Interment will follow at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Diabetes Association in Boyd's name.
