Glidden "Sandy" Sanford was born November 28,1930 in Daniel, WY, to Wiley and Dolly (Mayfield)Sanford. He grew up in Thermopolis, where he
graduated from Hot Springs County High School in 1949. He enlisted
in the Wyoming National Guard,where he served in the 300th
Armored Field Artillery Battalion, Battery A. He fought on the front lines in Korea, alongside many other young men from Thermopolis.
When the Korean War ended, he returned to Thermopolis, where he married Frances Davidson in 1953. He was employed by Bethlehem Steel Supply for more than 30 years, working first in Thermopolis,then Casper, then Tioga, N.D. He was transferred back to Casper in 1972, where he and Fran remained for a number of years. After he retired, they organized gambling junkets to Nevada, which they enjoyed very much. Later, they enjoyed spending winters in Arizona.
Sandy enjoyed gardening all his life, joking that he should probably have been a farmer. He will be remembered for the joy he expressed in growing
things, his easy smile, and his gentle demeanor. He was a loving man who will be missed by his family and friends.
Sandy was preceded in death by Fran, his wife of 61 years; his son, Bradley; his parents; his sisters, Ellen Sanderlin, Darlene Sorenson, and Thelma Smith; and his brother, Wayne.
He is survived by his daughters, Miki (Bob) Jones and Suzi (Guy) Thompson; his sister, Lillian Torrey, four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Debbie Hirz-Smith.
A memorial service will be held at Meadow Wind Assisted Living, Friday, January 29, at 10 a.m.
