Glenna Newman passed away peacefully at Life Care Center in Casper, Wyoming on November 7, 2022 after a hard fought battle with dementia. Glenna was born in Isonville, Kentucky on March 6, 1939 to the late Avis (Gilliam) and Estill Adkins. Glenna graduated from Russell High School in Russell, Kentucky in May of 1955, moving on to a semester of college before joining the U.S. Air Force in July 1957, where she ultimately met her late husband of nearly 40 years, David Weldon Newman, at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, New York.
Glenna left the Air Force in May 1959 as David and Glenna were to expect their first child, Cheryl Lynn Newman, in January 1960. Cheryl was soon followed by Connie Jo in 1961, and Carla Jean in 1962, with the surprise of Cathy Lea in 1968.
Glenna was an avid reader and enjoyed learning about historical events, as well as working on writing a novel in the hopes of perhaps being published one day. Glenna also enjoyed "real" country, fiddle, and blue grass music, camping and especially scenic drives through the mountains in hopes of catching the elusive wildlife on camera.
Glenna was an incredibly strong-willed woman who undeniably passed this trait on to each of her daughters. If Glenna set her mind to accomplishing a task, it was done in the most enviably organized and efficient manner possible. Glenna was the ideal mother-in-law as she never meddled in the lives of her adult children, although she likely had her own thoughts on the matter.
During her lifetime, Glenna held many different jobs outside the home from radar technician, travel agent, executive secretary, hotel owner, office manager, dispatcher, and documents specialist to, during her retirement years, working as an activities clerk in Grand Teton National Park and then on to her final and most enjoyable job, as a shop associate in the gift shop of the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming.
Glenna is survived by her four daughters, Cheryl Newman, Connie (David) Haxton, Carla (Thomas) Farias, and Cathy (Marcelo) Vincent; 10 grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. Glenna is also survived by her brother, Jack (Alicia) Adkins; sisters, Marianne Wells and Nicole Adkins; and sister-in-law, Colleene Adkins, all of Kentucky, and her sister-in-law Linda (Newman) Nemish of Port Angeles, WA, along with two nieces and two nephews and other extended family.
Amongst other family members preceding her in death were both Glenna's parents; her late husband, David Newman in 1998; her beloved brother, Marvin Adkins; and one niece, Dana Carey who was taken too soon.
Per her wishes, Glenna will be laid to rest with military honors next to her late husband in the National Veterans Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Service information will be posted as soon as it becomes available. Arrangements are under the direction of Newcomer Casper Chapel.
