CASPER -- A celebration of life for Gerald "Jerry" Lynn Poole, 63, will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Newcomer Family Funeral Home with Chaplain Ellis Kaster, chaplain at Wyoming Medical Center, officiating. A reception will follow.

He lost his courageous battle with cancer on Jan. 28, 2008, in his home, surrounded by family.

He was born on May 2, 1944 in Hammond, Ind., the son of Clarence Walter and Hazel Viola (Rude) Poole. They lived for a short time in Wisconsin on his grandfather's farm and then settled in Wyoming in 1950.

He received his education in Casper and graduated from Natrona County High School in 1962.

He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Corp of Engineers, leading a platoon during a tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in 1968.

He married Bonnie Twenge on June 7, 1970 and they made a home for themselves and their three children. They were later divorced but maintained a strong friendship for the sake of their children.

Working as an architectural draftsman for many years, he still made time to coach soccer, aid in Boy Scouts and haul children to their junior golf tournaments. He was member of Civitan and an active member of the American Institute of Architects.

In the most recent years, he worked as a project manager for GSG Architecture. He was a well respected employee, colleague and friend. He thought his career allowed him to make lasting marks in Wyoming, the state he was proud to call home.

He was a devoted family man, willing to drop anything to help someone in need. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking and camping. He was a member of men's bowling and golf leagues. He also enjoyed football, always rooting for his favorite team, the Broncos.

Survivors include his two daughters and their husbands, Renee Redman and Michele Huber, a son, Brian Poole, and his wife; six grandchildren, one brother, Pete Poole; three sisters, Sandi Bachmeier, Sheri Boyle and Stacey Pearson, and a cousin, Harvey Rude, who was like a brother to him.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, aunts and uncles.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wyoming Hospice Building Fund.

Newcomer Family Funeral Home will be in Charge of the arrangements.
