CASPER -- A memorial service to celebrate the life of George Herman Cannon, 73, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Burnett officiating.
He died July 25, 2008, at his home in Casper of pancreatic cancer under the care of his loving family and Hospice.
He was born on Oct. 14, 1934, in Houston, Texas, to Elmer Murray Cannon and Hazel Edna (Reaves) Cannon. He was raised on a farm in Bonney, Texas. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1952.
He attended the University of Houston from 1952 to 1955.
He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University, in 1956, with a major in general business and minors in music and social sciences.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army, and served in Germany as Court Martial and Special Investigations Clerk.
He worked for the Manchester Terminal Corp. of Houston.
He married Claranne Elizabeth Patterson on Nov. 20, 1966, in Denver.
He moved to Conifer, Colo., and worked for Aspen Park Lumber Company.
He worked for Texaco in Denver, then was transferred to Casper in 1964, Salt Lake in 1969, back to Casper in 1971, and retired in 1982.
He then worked for the State of Wyoming as a Quality Control Examiner and Appeal Hearing Officer retiring, in 1995.
He attended the National Judicial College in Reno, Nev., in 1992 and 1994.
He was active in the First United Methodist Church, serving as Director of the Koinonia Handbell Ringers for 24 years.
He directed the Shepherd's Bells, at Shepherd of The Hills Presbyterian Church for five years.
He was a member of the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers, Inc., serving as an officer and director.
He was a member of Kiwanis International and served the club as Division one, Rocky Mtn. District Lt. Governor 2005-2008.
He was a member of Safe Kids of Central Wyoming Coalition and delivered for Meals On Wheels.
He enjoyed traveling and photography.
He enjoyed skiing, golf, hiking and camping, with family and friends.
His three granddaughters were very important to him.
He is survived by his wife of Casper; daughter, Beth Anne Cannon-Hahn and her husband; son, Dean Cannon of Casper; three granddaughters; siblings, Elmer Cannon and his wife and Cleo Coleman of Bonney; a sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 332 East Second Street, Casper,WY 82601; Central WY Hospice, 319 South Wilson Street, Casper, WY 82601; or to a favorite charity.
