Gary William Brown

April 27, 1941 — February 27, 2024

Gary William Brown, a life-long resident of Casper, Wyoming, passed away on February 27th, 2024. He was father to Gary Hodge and is survived by his daughter Brenda (John) of Casper, grandchildren Gabriel and Isabelle, his nephews Chris Barry of Corte Madera, nephew Piers Barry of Ross, niece Hillary Barry of Ross and nephew Andrew Barry of Ross.

Gary was born on April 27th, 1941, to attorney William Brown and Dorothy Brown. He had a younger sister, Janice Brown Barry, who passed away in February of 2023. Despite moving to California for college and medical school and to raise children, the two siblings remained close for life, emailing informative articles and satire at least once a week up until her passing.

Gary grew up with a love of muscle cars, and loved drag racing on the outskirts of Casper, and later raced his cars at Douglas Speedway. He developed a love of playing golf, which he inherited from his father, who was a champion golf-player in Wyoming.

Graced with the intelligence of his family, he graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. After college, Gary spent many years traveling to North Dakota, working as Landman in the oil and gas industry.

One day in 1989, he met and fell in love with Elaine Germaine, and they spent the next 20 years adoring each other. In her later years she fell ill, and Gary dedicated himself to being by her side and advocating for her until she passed away in 2020.

Gary and his sister Janice shared a love of bird watching, which he was able to enjoy throughout his retirement, along with spending time with his daughter and grandchildren, golfing and driving around in his meticulous classic cars.

Gary was a man of few words but was very deliberate when he shared them. Those who were close to him knew they were loved by him, demonstrated by his loyalty and dedication, rivaled only by his daughter. His quick, dry humor was enjoyed by all who knew him. Gary was a true Wyoming native, resilient and stolid, and led by example. He will be missed by us all.
