Floyd V. Thompson

January 7, 1918 — July 16, 2015

WWII veteran, Floyd V. Thompson, passed peacefully at Life Care Center in Casper WY. Born in Mahtowa, MN to Charles and Agnes (Estlund) Thompson, he spent his youth farming and adventuring with his 8 older siblings and talented dog, Fido. He graduated from Barnum High School in 1936, married M. Ileen Thompson in 1940 and settled in Columbia Heights after the war for over 50 years where they raised their 5 children. A graduate of the Dunwoody Inst., he worked at the Cornelius Co., Onan and for over 20 years after retirement, First Lutheran Church, Columbia Heights.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and wife of 67 years. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandson, nieces, nephews, numerous family members and friends.

Services will be at Covenant Lutheran Church, Wheatland, WY, at 11:00 AM on July 24, 2015. Additional services will be held at Historic Ft. Snelling Veterans Chapel July 31, 2015 at 9:30 AM with internment to follow at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of your choice or to the Thompson Scholarship Fund - Barnum High School, 3675 County Road 140
Barnum, MN 55707; MN Vietnam Charity - Honor Flight, 2674 MacKubin Street, Roseville, MN 55413, or simply "pay it forward" and take a friend or family member out for a coffee and a good visit as he liked to do.
