Evelyn Hankins

March 11, 1926 — April 2, 2018

Evelyn "Evie" Hankins, 92, of Casper, went to heaven Monday April 2, 2018 after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson's disease.

On March 11, 1926, Philip and Eva Hertz welcomed her birth in Mandan, North Dakota. Evelyn graduated from Mandan High School in 1944. She happily married the love of her life, Joseph "Bob" Hankins in 1945 – sharing their story for 50 years before his passing in 1995. They began their adventure in Mandan, progressed to Billings, Montana and relocated to Casper in 1959.

Evelyn loved playing cards – especially bridge and cribbage. A tough competitor, she had a sharp mind and liked to win!

A Saint Benedict Oblate, Evelyn was passionate about her Catholic faith. She shared her enthusiasm and deep belief seamlessly, inspiring many people. She attended Mass every day and led Rosary beforehand. She was extremely active and held countless offices within Catholic organizations - including President of: Wyoming Council of Catholic Women, National Council of Catholic Women, and St. Joseph Circle. She loved going to Catholic conventions throughout Wyoming with her girlfriends, where they toasted life and had more than a few laughs!

An elegant woman who loved fashion, she always displayed fine style. A renowned baker, she showered her loved ones with their favorite treats. Perhaps one of her proudest accomplishments was as a homemaker who lassoed and raised six rambunctious children.

She is survived by all six: D'Arlyn Bauer in North Dakota; Annette McDowell and Philip Hankins in Oklahoma; Jason Hankins in Wyoming; Jeanine Hankins Lau in California; and David Hankins in Washington.

She loved each and every one of her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren – who all call her "Nan". Her only sister, Gloria Sullivan, resides in Illinois.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, April 26 at the Newcomer Casper Chapel from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm.

A Mass will be held on Friday, April 27, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 10:30 am. Reception to promptly follow. Inurnment will occur at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 pm.
