Esther J. Schnoor
Esther J. Schnoor, 85, of Casper passed away September 22, 2010 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. The fifth of seven children, she was born on March 22, 1925 in Douglas, WY to Nellie Anderson Clausen and Hans P. Clausen. On June 1, 1944, Esther married Herman H. Schnoor who preceded her in death in 1991. Also preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Francis, Newton, James, and Arthur Clausen; one sister, Clara Clausen; and grandson Collin Schnoor. She is survived by one sister, Marie Jones of Springfield, MO; sons Arthur Schnoor (Jan) of Olathe, KS; Newton Schnoor of Katy, TX; David Schnoor (Debbie) of Friendswood, TX; daughters Jeanne Harris (Jerry) of Cheyenne, WY and Judy Douglas (Jack) of Thornton, CO. Esther is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating high school, Esther received a war-time teaching certificate and taught at small, rural schools in the Douglas area.
As a rancher's daughter, Esther was involved in many 4-H activities and as a teenager won a trip to Chicago for her bread baking skills. As a homemaker, Esther won many awards at both the Central Wyoming Fair in Casper and the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas for her culinary skills. Additional, her baking skill was recognized by the Crisco Shortening Company where she received a trip to New York City in 1964 to be photographed for a national advertising campaign that appeared in several major women's magazines.
After her marriage, in addition to raising her family, she was involved in the Boy Scouts, PTA, 4-H, Casperettes Homemakers' Extension Club and served for many years as an election official. Work outside of the home included many years with NCSD #1 beginning as a teacher's aide and later as a food service worker for over 20 years, retiring in 1993 from NCHS.
Services for Esther will be Monday, Sept. 27, 2010 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home with Chaplain Ellis Kaster officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Sunday Sept. 26, 2010 at the funeral home.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Meals-on-Wheels, or the local 4-H program c/o the Natrona County Extension office on Fairgrounds Rd.
