Esther L. Sanders "Mimi", 96 passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6th at Life Care of Casper.
Esther was born on March 10, 1924 to Pete and Katie Kechter in Lusk, Wyoming. Esther was the youngest of four kids. Her siblings were Jake Kechter, Carl Kechter and Clara Kechter Harris. Esther was raised on the family farm and graduated from Lusk High School in 1942. After graduation Esther moved to Cheyenne with her sister Clara and worked at the F.E. Warren Air Force Base as a secretary. That's where she met the love of her life Hon "Sandy" Sanders. The couple married in 1945. After they married, Hon was stationed in Casper where they lived in the barracks at the airport. Following Hon's discharge from the service, they made their home in Casper. Hon started the family business Sanders Concrete and Esther worked in retail. The couple bought a home at 514 S. Melrose where they raised their children. After Hon passed away in December of 1990, Esther lived by herself and remained in the family home until the age of 94.
In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and baking. One of her signature dishes was fried chicken cooked in her cast iron skillet. She loved to bake blueberry pies for Brian and pumpkin pies for Rob along with many other desserts for family functions and holidays. Esther enjoyed her home and working in her yard. Her love of animals was endless. She loved to sit on her porch and feed the squirrels home-made peanut butter cookies and peanut butter sandwiches and watch the variety of birds that would enjoy her many bird feeders. Esther was extremely passionate about rescuing animals. She adopted two dogs, Bandit and Lulu from the Casper Humane Society.
Esther in her younger days loved to travel especially to Thermopolis. In the early 80's, her and Hon bought a camp trailer and they would spend the entire summer at Payne's Fountain of Youth. She loved to dance, listen to music, watch horse racing, enjoy a cold Corona, but most of all she loved to shop. Esther was a very caring and generous person. She always wanted to make sure nobody went without. Her favorite color was pink so you were guaranteed to get something from her that was pink or had pink in it.
Esther was a member of the Elks and the Eagles. She made a lot of wonderful friends and her best friend was Bill Coleman. Esther and Bill met at the Eagles. The two of them were dancing and travel partners. They would go dancing every Friday night and hardly ever missed a song. They were crowned King and Queen of the Valentine Ball at the Eagles. They would take gambling trips to Wendover with family and friends, but most of all she loved to watch the Kentucky Derby and bet on horses with Bill.
Esther is survived by her daughter Connie Brunette of Casper, son Rob Sanders (Sharon Kennedy) of Cheyenne, granddaughter Laurie Ann Marcovitz (Hank Alexander) of Casper, grandson Brian Brunette (Michelle). Grandkids Kiana Brunette, Keyton Brunette, Mackenzie Marcovitz all of Casper. Cory (Cammeron) Sanders and Aaron (Anna) Sanders of Colorado. Esther has two great grandkids, Khloe and Jackson Sanders of Colorado.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents Pete and Katie Kechter, husband Hon "Sandy" Sanders, son Ronnie Sanders, sister Clara Harris, brothers Jake Kechter & Carl Kechter, nephew Rick Harris, Bill Coleman, son-in-law Edward Brunette, who she thought the world of and last but not least her four beloved dogs Trixie, Patty, Bandit and Lulu.
