Estella Mae Matlack

October 18, 1931 — October 20, 2013

On October 20th, 2013 our mom, Estella Mae (Smitty) Matlack went to join our dad Theodore (Ted) Matlack in Heaven.

Estella was born on October 18, 1931 in Latrobe, Pennsylvania to Harry O and Sarah Mae (Grove) Smith. Mom grew up in Latrobe, Youngstown area and graduated high school from Latrobe High School in 1950.

After graduation Mom worked at the Latrobe hospital as a nurse's aid. She met Dad while taking care of his niece at the hospital. After a three month courtship Dad called and asked Mom's sister if Mom wanted to get married.

Mom and Dad were married on February 6, 1954. Shortly after they were married Dad's Army unit was transferred to France. While in France they were blessed with two sons, Tom and Dennis. On weekends they enjoyed sightseeing and picnics by the road.

After returning to the U.S. they lived in various states. While living in Indiana they were blessed with a daughter, Jo Ann.

In 1964 Dad's army career led them to Germany where they lived for two years. They would spend their afternoons touring the old castles.

In 1967 Dad retired from the Army and they moved to Wyoming, where they were blessed with a daughter, Betty.

Mom was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed camping, fishing, playing bingo, and spending time with family. She loved collecting salt and pepper shakers.

Estella is survived by four children, Tom Matlack, Dennis Matlack, Betty (Rob) Coons, and Jo Ann (Ron) Watson; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; six sisters, Catherine Mcdowell, Donna Poche, Susie Laire, Barb Salandra, Sarah Stenko, and Jane Hayden, all of Pennsylvania; Sister-in-law, Elsie Mickleson of California; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ted of 52 years; her parents; her sister, Joan; and grandson, Carlos.

At her request no services are planned. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
