Ernest Joseph Keiffer, 85, of Evansville passed away on Saturday September 21, 2013.
He was born in Buffalo Creek, Colorado on February 10, 1928. He graduated from Wheatland High School in 1946 and then enlisted in the United States Army. He served in World War II as a Military Policeman and was honorably discharged in 1948.
After serving his country, he moved to Evansville and began a career at the Texaco refinery where he worked until he retired in 1982. He served as the Evansville Mayor and Town Marshall from 1960-1966. He was an active member of the Suicide Prevention League for many years.
On June 11, 1971, he married the love of his life Rose K. Westwick of Wheatland.
He is survived by his wife Rose, 1 sister Rose Denzen of Denver; 2 daughters Melodie Welch of Nashville, TN; April Keiffer of Evansville and 4 step children, Nancy Gerlock of Casper, Bob Clark of Orem, Utah; Jim Clark of Sandy, Utah and Laurie Clark of Casper. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ida Keiffer; sister Nancy Jane Keiffer; brother Pat Keiffer; son Vance Keiffer and step daughter Bonnie Murray.
Memorial services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday September 28, 2013 at the Evansville Senior Center. Internment services will follow at the Wheatland Cemetery at 1 p.m.
