CASPER -- Funeral services for Emily Rickey Hill, 90, will be held a 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at Newcomer Family Funeral Home with Kathleen Jarrard officiating. Burial will be in Rushtown Cemetery, McDermott, Ohio.
Viewing is from 9 a.m. on Monday until the service.
She died Dec. 28, 2007, at Wyoming Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family..
She was born a twin on Nov.17, 1917, in Franklin Furnace, Ohio, the daughter of Frank W. and Winona (Staten) Rickey.
She was raised and educated in Portsmouth, Ohio. She graduated from the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In her early years, she sang over the radio in New Orleans, La., where she was introduced by her sister and brother-in-law to her future husband.
She married the love of her life, James A. Hill, on May 30, 1941, and later moved to Casper in 1949.
Being the niece of W. Branch Rickey, she enjoyed many years of baseball and witnessed her uncle break racial barriers when he signed Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers.
Her hobbies surrounded her four daughters. She was an avid bridge player, earning her life master award in less than three years. She also taught bridge at Casper College for several years.
She was a founding member of the Platte River Pearls strumming her ukulele and singing into the hearts of many Wyomingites. It is with great hope that she be most remembered for her practical jokes, love for her family and a life lived to the fullest.
She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Jane Drake, Prudy Kedro and Franny Hicks; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Julia Rickey Peebles, 94, and Josephine Rickey Copp, 86, of Portsmouth, Ohio and Sally Rickey Copp, 82, of Dayton, Ohio, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, her girls request donations be made in her name to the Central Wyoming Hospice, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, The Alzheimer's affiliations of Wyoming or the donor's choice.
Newcomer Family Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
