Elsie King Tysor, 99 of Casper, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2015 at Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions. The year was 1916 and Elsie was the eldest of three lovely Swedish daughters born to Laurence and Anna Gunstrom in Sheridan Wyoming, each two years apart. Elsie was exceptionally beautiful. Her sister Velma Crane became a much loved school nurse in Douglas, and her youngest sister, Addie Shultheise, is a much admired former owner of the LaBonte Hotel, an avid gardener and active citizen still living in Douglas. All three have lived beyond their mid-nineties.
Elsie attended Sheridan High School before the family moved to Douglas where she graduated from Douglas High School in 1934. She met her future husband, Jerry Stocker King at the University of Wyoming where she was in the Tri Delta sorority. She married to him in July, 1937 at 7:00 in the morning, in Douglas. They lived happily in several different towns in Wyoming, building a lovely little home in Powell before the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Jerry went to war for four years while Elsie worked first, as the secretary to the director of the Heart Mountain Japanese Internment Camp outside of Powell, and then for Senator Robertson in Washington D.C.
After the war they settled in Cody to raise two children, Linda (Jones; 1946-2008), and son Larry King. She worked in the family businesses (King Moving and Storage) keeping the books while enjoying the life in Cody to the fullest. She joined P.E.O. and eventually became a 60+year member. They moved to Casper in 1970 when Jerry was appointed to run the Small Business Administration for Wyoming. Elsie became active in a Casper chapter of P.E.O. and in the Fine Arts Club. After his retirement in 1979 they traveled extensively and were snowbirds in Peoria, AZ. Jerry died in 1989 and later Elsie married Lyle (Bud) Tysor from Cheyenne whom she had dated in college. They too lived in Peoria for 12 years before his death in 2002.
Elsie's warm and caring personality has made her beloved by whomever she was with. She has a deep relationship with her only grandson Jesse King (Katie O'Keefe). She has been at Primrose under their gentle care since it was opened. Despite her physical frailties she was tough and uncomplaining and always thinking of other people. Her family; Larry (Emily), Jess (Katie), new baby grandson John Stanley King (born July 22, 2015) of Ogden Utah, Addie Schultheis, Sudie (Tysor, Trowbridge) Adams, Sally (Tysor) DeBois, and her extended family and friends feel grateful and blessed by the many years that she was with us, and the rich, happy life that she experienced. She has left us with a legacy of wonderful memories. In lieu of flowers or a donation please reach out to the loved ones in your life and tell them how precious they are to you.
