EFFIE VICTORIA SMITH
Memorial services for Effie V. Smith, 96, will be held at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 520 CY Avenue, Casper, Wyoming, on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 10:00a.m. with Rev. Charles Shannon and Dr. Bryant Badger officiating. Mrs. Smith died December 28, 2008, at Shepherd of the Valley Care Center. Cremation has taken place.
Mrs. Smith was born June 29, 1912, in Leon, Iowa, to William David and Harriet B. (McDaniel) Robison. The family moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming, in 1920 where she grew up and received her education. On June 7, 1934, she married Ray L. Smith. They continued to live in Cheyenne until 1939 at which time they moved to Worland, Wyoming, then moved to Casper in 1952, where she continued to live until her death.
Mrs. Smith was an active member of First Christian Church since 1935, transferring her membership from Cheyenne to Casper in 1952. She taught Sunday school, served on the Diaconate, worked in several women's groups, served as C.W.F. President in 1957, and was church Librarian for six years. She was also a 50-year member of Fort Casper Chapter #4 O.E.S. and served as Worthy Matron in 1969. In 1975, the Grand Chapter of Wyoming appointed her Grand Representative of Ohio in Wyoming for three years. She was a member of Wednesday Past Matrons.
She loved living each day and accepting whatever it had to offer. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and tending the roses in her yard. Her home and family were very important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on September 19, 1987; three brothers, Ernest, Wilbur, and Walter Robison, four sisters, Beulah Robison, Juanita Robison, Catherine Sumner and Inez Johnson.
She is survived by her son, Ray E. Smith, of Eugene, Oregon; grandson Bryan E. Smith of Casper; grandson Dustin E. Smith of Eugene, Oregon, one great granddaughter, Brittani Leigh Smith, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
