Edwin Sevcik

Ed was born April 16, 1918 on the family farm, Howard County, St. Paul, Nebraska to John S. and Mary K. Fisher) Sevcik. He was the youngest of five children.
May 1942, Ed graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force as an Aerial Gunnery Instructor from November 9, 1942 until he was honorably discharged at Drew Field, Tampa, FL, January 9, 1946.On October 9, 1948 he married Dycke Lorraine (Miller) at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, St. Paul, NE.
He was employed by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation for thirty years as a Soil Scientist, and later as Natural Resource Specialist. He was involved in the development of Irrigation Districts in Howard County, Nebraska; Ainsworth Irrigation District, Ainsworth, NE, and worked with Irrigation Districts in western Nebraska and eastern Wyoming.
Ed worked out of Grand Island, NE 1946-1955; O'Neill, NE 1955-1957; Ainsworth, NE 1957-1967; Casper, WY 1967-1976. He retired from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation December 17, 1976.
After retirement from the Bureau of Reclamation Ed sold Real Estate for Century 21, Casper, WY from 1976 to 1981.
Since World War II, he managed family farms in Howard County, St. Paul, NE, for his Mother, sister, and brothers.
He was a lifetime member of The American Legion, Carl Morgensen Post 119, St. Paul NE; Life Member, Elks Casper Lodge No. 1353; Life Member Knights of Columbus Council #1543, Casper, WY.
He enjoyed sports especially University of Nebraska FOOTBALL!
Survivors include his wife, Dycke; son Charles J. and daughter-in-law, Rita A Sevcik, Anchorage, AK; daughter, Deborah L. Sevcik, Colorado Springs, CO; daughters, Laura M. Smith and son-in-law, Mark F.Smith, Prescott, AZ; Grandchildren, Cameron Jo and Derek J. Sevcik, Anchorage, AK; Abel J. (A.J.) Smith, Prescott, AZ; and special family friend James D. Kelly, Casper, WY. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Blanche, brothers, Henry, Clem, and Stephen.
