CASPER -- Services for Edward Dale Yates, 57, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Carr officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery with military rites accorded by the United Veterans Council and the National Guard.
Viewing is Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary, at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.
He died May 28, 2007, at Central Wyoming Hospice Home.
He was born June 11, 1949, in Levels, W.Va., the son of Grant Hale Yates and Nellie Hope Largent Yates.
He was raised in Fairmont, W.Va. He graduated from East Fairmont High School in June 1967.
He went to work for Owens Illinois Glass Company where he worked until he was drafted into the U.S .Army in February 1969. He served as a military policeman in Germany during his tour of duty, which ended in January of 1971.
In 1972, he traveled to Wyoming with many of his friends to find work in the Green River area where he met his wife, Sheryl, and they were married Aug.17, 1974.
In 1976, they moved to Casper, where he played, worked and raised his family.
At the time of his death, he was employed by Wyoming Medical Center. He worked there for almost 13 years and made many friends within the hospital community.
He treasured the open spaces of Wyoming and diversity of the land and its people. He was a Master Gardener, loved to go camping, hiking and to spend time with his family and friends.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and beer drinker. He celebrated life and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of Casper, son, Matthew Jeremy Yates, Laramie; daughter, MaryEllen Hope Yates, Casper; sisters and brothers, Jenny Bohn, Fairmont, W.Va., Andrew "Merle" Yates, Merry Hill, N.C., Allen Yates, Fairmont, W.Va., Holly Pander: Fairmont, W.Va., and Karen Decker, Fairmont, W.Va., and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to an education fund for his daughter, the MaryEllen Hope Yates Memorial Fund,
