Obituary for Edward (Ned) Martin Byrnes
Edward "Ned" Byrnes, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle died suddenly on Friday, June 30, 2006, in Colorado Springs, CO while visiting family; he was 65 years old.
He was born October 21, 1940 in Butte, MT to Judith "Ninman" Byrnes and Martin S. Byrnes.
Ned graduated from Butte High School in 1959, and from the University of UT in Social work, he began his working career with Mountain States Fuel in Salt Lake City. After receiving his Masters Degree he spent 26 months in Nigeria, West Africa with the Peace Corps. Ned worked as a social worker in Indian Health Care at Cass Lake, Minn., Pine Ridge, SD, and Social Care at Columbus Hospital in Great Falls, MT. Last fall he retired from the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, WY. He also taught Social Work at the University of Laramie in WY for several years.
Ned, loved being able to help others and had just returned a couple of weeks ago from the Katrina area where he was volunteering for the second time helping victims repair their lives and homes.
Ned enjoyed his grandchildren and being with his wife Helen and family. Since retirement, his passion has been planning trips and gold prospecting with his brother Mike; camping and fishing with his son-in-laws and family. His favorite past time was reading. His loving heart, quick wit, unique sense of humor and jovial laugh will be missed by all.
He was proceeded in death by his parents Judy and Marty Byrnes and his 1 st wife Marilyn A. Ellis; Mother-in-law and Father-in-law Catherine and Leo Zuhoski; Brother-in-law Larry Zuhoski.
He is survived by his wife and friend of 24 years, Helen "Zuhoski" Byrnes whom he met in Great Falls, MT and married in Butte, MT. His three girls and sons-in-law, Jackie Zuhoski-Garcia and Byran Garcia, of San Francisco, CA.; Jill and Duane Kraft; Jody and Paul Steelman, of Casper, WY. Ned and Helen's 5-grandchildren; Russ and Catherine Swanson, Samuel and Robert Steelman of Casper, WY and Natalia Garcia of San Francisco, CA; Brother and sister-in-law Mike and Beverly Byrnes of Butte, MT; Sisters-in-law Sarah Nettie of Colorado Springs, CO, Cathy Watson and Maryann Luedtke and brother-in-law Donald Luedtke of Great Falls, MT; Niece and her husband Cindy and John Sorich of Butte, MT; Nephew and his wife Martin M. and Brenda Byrnes of Great Falls, MT; Great nephews; Jacob Sorich of Anaconda, MT; Rick Sorich of Butte, MT; and Marshall M. Byrnes of Great Falls, MT. and several nephews and nieces.
Visitation was held in Colorado Springs for his immediate family on Saturday, July 1 st. At his request his remains have been cremated. Memorial services are being arranged by Newcomer Family Funeral Home in Casper, WY and will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m. July 8th at the First
Nazarene Church and conducted by: Chaplain Ellis Kaster.
