Earl H. Johnson passed away July 3, 2014 at the age of 77 in his home.
He was born on March 19, 1937 in Thermopolis, Wyoming to Evelyn Rose Radford Johnson and Henry Peter Johnson. He was married to Mildred "Mid" Ann Shank on December 28, 1958 in Thermopolis.
He was the grandson of 16 Mule Team Johnson of Thermopolis who drove oil from Casper to Midwest and freight to the Big Horn Basin. It is because if him that the main streets of Thermopolis are so wide allowing him to turn his team around. Earl loved sharing this story and showing the photo he proudly displayed in his home as well as a replica of the team. He received an Associate's Degree from Casper College. He spent 6 years in the Army National Guard. He worked in Casper 32 years for the Wyoming Highway Department, where he retired as a Highway Inspector. He worked after retirement at Country General in the sporting goods department. He was a Hunter Safety Instructor, 4-H leader, and an Active member and Past Master of Masonic Lodge Independence Rock #56. He loved woodworking, boating, fishing, camping and driving his King Midget car in parades and around Casper. He looked forward to having coffee with his buddies weekly. He was fond of old country music, rodeos and dogs and babies were always welcome for a visit.
He is survived by his wife, Mid. Three Children: Wanda (Brad) Hanebrink of Sheridan; Ronda Laib; Bryan (Amy) Johnson of Casper. Six grandchildren; Lindsey Oliver, Zachary Schafer, Branden, Bailey and Wyatt Johnson. Step-grandchildren: Kylie Hunter and Kelcie Ebert. Three Great-Grandchildren: Isaac and Reise Oliver and Angel Tomlinson, all of whom he loved deeply and was very proud.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the 12th Street entrance in the Highland Park Cemetery by the Masonic Lodge Independence Rock #56, Bishop Kenneth Kinner and Reverend Jim Dean officiating.
Memorials can be made to : Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital, Church of the Holy Family in Casper or Central Wyoming Hospice and Transitions.
