Duane "Boomer" Pickinpaugh
Duane Fay Pickinpaugh passed away peacefully at home in Casper, Wyoming on January 25, 2013 at the age of 75. He met his Lord and Savior while surrounded by his loving family.
Duane was born on Oct. 27, 1937 in Bassett, Nebraska to Fay A. and Olive I. Pickinpaugh. Duane was one of eleven children, five brothers and four sisters have preceded him in death with one surviving brother, Chuck Pickinpaugh of Newport, Nebraska. Duane married Bertha Brown, the love of his life, in Newport, Nebraska on Nov. 30, 1958.
Duane served in the Army from 1955-1958. He was stationed in the U.S. and in France. After his time in the military he started his lifelong construction career as a heavy equipment operator and superintendant. He referred to himself as a "dirt dummy". His favorite pastimes included spending time on his pontoon with his family, fishing, hunting and he was a lifelong Nebraska Cornhusker fan. After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering as a VA Driver and Meals on Wheels deliver driver. Duane was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; he will be dearly missed.
Duane is survived by his wife, Bertha Pickinpaugh of Casper, Wyoming, his three children; daughter, Tammy Walters and her husband, Ken of Casper, Wyoming, son, Greg Pickinpaugh and his wife Nannette of Decatur, Texas, and son, Terry Pickinpaugh and his wife, Linda of Casper, Wyoming; his nine grandchildren; Mandy, Scottie, Valerie, Cecilia, Christopher, Jessica, Astaysha, Aaron and Alyssa and eight great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 710 East 2nd Street, on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The memorial services will be held Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Oregon Trail Veterans' Cemetery in Evansville, WY. A reception following the services and burial will be held at Central Wyoming Senior Center in Evansville, WY.
