Duane E. Leggett passed away November 3, 2009 at Central Wyoming Hospice
Home in Casper, WY. Duane was born December 15, 1921 in New
Harrisburg, OH to Henry Harrison Leggett and Myrtle Olive John Leggett.
Duane had loved airplanes all of his life. He spent many years working on his
own home built airplanes. He has been a member of Experimental Aircraft
Association since January, 1954. He was also a member of the Bryan Stock Trail
VFW Post: 9439 in Casper and the Masonic Independence Rock Lodge #56, A.F.
& A.M., at Casper, WY.
Duane left home in January, 1938, at the age of 16. He joined the Civilian
Conservation Corps (CCC) in Ely, NV for six months. In 1939, he moved to
Ballantine, MT with the CCC. There they worked on the Anita Dam and
helped build a new headgate at Huntley, MT. He joined the Army Air Corps in
1943. He was stationed at an airbase near Naples, Italy during WWII, honorably
discharged on October 14, 1945. He later earned his GED in 1946.
Duane worked for Ralph Dierenfie1d (Standard Oil) in Worden, MT, also drove
school buses during that time. Duane and Lois lived in Hardin,
MT for four years, where he worked for Burlington Trucking. Duane moved to
Casper with his family in the late sixties, working for several different trucking
companies before starting with Industrial Electric.
Duane married his fIrst wife, Evelyn Carlson, in the early forties. From that
union they had two daughters. They later divorced in 1958. In the early sixties,
he married Lois Chappell. He is survived by his wife of 48 years of Mills,
WYand his children; Joanie (Dale) Abbott of Ashland, MT; Bonnie (John) Weigand of Shelby, MT; Mary Ann (Jim) Lembke of Casper. WY; Ronald Leggett of Fairplay, CO; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 brother and 3 sisterd. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister. Memorial to Central Wyoming Hospice or Poplar Living Center.
