Dr. Paul Johnson

CASPER – Following cremation, memorial services for Dr. Paul K. Johnson, 71, will be conducted on Sunday December 17, 2006 at 1:00 p.m., at Newcomer Family Funeral Home.

Dr. Johnson died peacefully at his home on December 13, 2006.

Born in Casper in 1935, Dr. Johnson graduated from Natrona County High School where he played the cello in the school band and was active in theatre productions. In 1953 Dr. Johnson moved to California to pursue a higher education. He received his Bachelor and Master's of Science from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, California, and his M.D. from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. Dr. Johnson moved back to Casper in 1975 where he started a private medical practice at the Casper Clinic. He went on to become co-founder of the Central Wyoming Cancer Treatment and Hospice Program, and worked with the development of Wyoming Medical Center's Oncology Program and the growth of the Rocky Mountain Oncology Center.

Although Dr. Johnson was devoted to his profession, he still found plenty of time for the things he enjoyed. Dr. Johnson could often be found fishing until sunset with his beloved wife and family, traveling, aggressively playing the latest computer games, and immersing himself in computer technology. He also enjoyed anything with horsepower, including piloting his Cessna airplanes, participating in the Sturgis motorcycle rallies, and building and driving fast cars. Dr. Johnson built a collection of stamps, coins, and sports cards and celebrated his heritage through cooking traditional Lebanese cuisine.

Those who knew Dr. Johnson are unanimous in their acknowledgment of his generosity, his love of his family, and his dedication to his profession. He was admired for his sincerity, commitment to his beliefs, and his support of others. Dr. Johnson was a true pillar of the Casper community and an inspiration to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Mary Johnson, and his brother Robert Hawkins Johnson. Survivors include his wife Dianne Johnson, sons Phillip and Paul Johnson, daughter Rikki Johnson, and a very large group of extended family, friends, co-workers and patients who all will miss him greatly.

Those wishing to express their sympathy and gratitude may want to consider a donation in his name to the Central Wyoming Hospice Program.
