CASPER -- Services for Douglas H. Stiles, 80, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2007, at Newcomer Family Funeral Home with Pastor John Hill from Mount Hope Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will take place at Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville with military rites accorded by the United Veterans Council and Wyoming Guard.
He died April 15, 2007, at Wyoming Medical Center.
He was born May 16, 1926, in Detroit, Mich., the son of Douglas Sanford Stiles and Lillian Hiller.
He attended school in Detroit until graduation from high school, where he was inducted into the Army, serving as a staff sergeant in the Philippines and Japan. He was discharged in November of 1946.
His family moved to Los Angeles where he attended UCLA and graduated with a geology degree. He was hired by Ohio Oil Company, which later became Marathon Oil Company and transferred to Sidney, Neb., where he met and married his wife, Marilyn on Sept. 8, 1957.
They moved to Casper in 1964, living here until his death. He retired from Marathon Oil in February 1986 as a senior geologist. His first love was always geology. He was a member of the Wyoming Geological Society and the Elks Club.
Survivors include his wife of Casper, daughters, Denise Schmidt and husband, Evergreen, Colo., and Lynn Stiles Reedy and husband, Grants Pass, Ore.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Newcomer Family Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.
