Dorothy M. Phinney

October 15, 1927 — April 30, 2015

Dorothy M. Phinney, 87 of Casper, went home to her Lord on Thursday, April 30, 2015. She was born October 15, 1927 in Littleton, CO to Charles and Mamie McBeath. She grew up on the Padlock Ranch and graduated from Hot Springs County High School in Thermopolis, Wyoming. She received her teaching certificate from the University of Wyoming and then taught at Alcova School. While in Alcova, she met and married the love of her life, her husband of 55 years, Vernon R. Phinney. Together they raised five children, Ernie, Bud, Becky, Chuck, and Debbie. Upon Vern's retirement in 1984, they moved to Evansville and then purchased a home in Casper. Dorothy was a 4-H leader for over 40 years and an active member of Wyoming Homemakers. Dorothy was instrumental in founding the Union Sunday School in Alcova, and taught bible classes for many of the area children. She was active in the Alcova Baptist Church when it was founded, and the First Baptist Church in Casper. Dorothy enjoyed reading, puzzles, and knitting sweaters and caps for her grandchildren and the babies of her friends. She traveled extensively with her sisters, visiting Australia, Hawaii, Alaska, New Zealand, Fiji, and the Caribbean. Her favorite reason to travel was to celebrate the birthdays of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, and South Dakota. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, especially her family.

She is survived by her children, Ernie (Sandy) Phinney, Vernon Phinney Jr, Becky (Rich) Frederiksen, Chuck (Sanna) Phinney, and Debbie Phinney; brother, Charles (Marcia) McBeath; grandchildren, Bryan (Nikki) Phinney, Brent (Lindsay) Phinney, Bryce Phinney; Shawn (Jackie) Frederiksen, Justin (Lexi) Frederiksen, Darcy Phinney, Kim Phinney, Brad Schieck, and Matt Schieck; 11 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon; sisters, Mary Ellis Odde, Dene Baker, and Ruth McBeath.

An open house will be held for Dorothy from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 13, 2015, with a special time of remembrance to be held at 1:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church, 514 South Beech Street, Casper, WY.
