Dorothy Marie Evans (nee Dolan and Koerber) died peacefully in her sleep on February 27, 2020. She was born in Casper, Wyoming on February 13, 1936 of Mamie Curtis and photographer William Dolan. Dorothy was very fortunate to have a second father in Theodore "Ted" Koerber when he married Mamie in 1944. Dorothy was an accomplished horsewoman, winning many equestrian competitions. She also placed in the first Miss Wyoming Rodeo competition in 1955.
A graduate of NCHS, Dorothy went on to college at Texas A&I where she met Dan Evans whom she married in 1955. Her marriage to Dan took her all over the US and to Europe where she enjoyed antiquing and exploring. In 1957, the welcomed their first child, Katherine and in 1970, their second daughter, Diane, joined the family.
In 1977, Dorothy and her family moved back to Casper. She and her husband were active in the Benevolent and Protective order of ELKS and in the Masonic Order. She worked in many roles, including administrative assistant, bookkeeper, and basecamp coordinator for extended backpacking trips in the Absarokas for lepidoptera research. In her senior years Dorothy enrolled in automotive courses at Casper College and proudly shared photographs of the engines she repaired. She also took many of the continuing education courses that the college offers.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband in 1987. She is survived by both daughters, six grandchildren (Daniel Hagan of Florida, Christopher Hagan of Georgia, Teresa Gobble of Texas, Elizabeth Gobble of Florida, and Gwendolyn Prior and Evan Prior of New Mexico), and three great grandchildren, Liberty, Cadence, and Ashley Hagan. Always a proponent of education and service, Dorothy's legacy produced three nurses, a sheriff, a military veteran, a psychologist, and a quality assurance analyst.
Dorothy will be interred with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at a time yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in her name to the Casper Humane Society or the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
