Our beloved Mother, Doris Elaine Shelton 87, passed away on January 28, 2016.
Doris was born in Lucas, Kansas on November 3, 1928 to Harold and Grace Phillips Hoopes. She attended schools in Kansas, Utah and Colorado, however, most of her business knowledge she gained from reading and studying books.
Doris's greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends. She loved to tell stories of childhood to her children and grandchildren. Doris enjoyed traveling because she could see and try new things. In addition, she enjoyed painting, knitting, sewing, reading and cooking. She won several ribbons for her art, needlework and cooking at the Central Wyoming Fair.
Doris met her husband, Willie Shelton in Fort Collins, Colorado. They married on the first day of spring, March 21, 1948, in Fort Collins, Colorado. They moved around Colorado, Wyoming, Oklahoma and Texas before settling in Casper, Wyoming in 1952. Willie and Doris Shelton owned and operated several businesses in Casper, Wyoming including Red Dot Hot Shot and Red Dot Dunlop Tires.
Doris will be forever loved and missed by her five children, Sandy (Sam) Sherman, Cherie Shelton Norman, Debbie (Todd) Sneve, Bill Shelton (Kathy Lentz-Emmons), Robert Shelton, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and her brother Melvin (Dorothy) Hoopes and his extended family. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Grace Hoopes, her husband, Willie and her grandson, John Corbett Norman.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Casper VFW.
A celebration of Doris' life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, February 5, 2016 at 1:00 P.M.
