Doris was born February 5, 1933 to Knute and Doris Thoe in St. Paul Minnesota. She went peacefully to be with our Lord on December 12, 2018. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends at Central Wyoming Hospice.
Doris attended school in St. Paul and graduated from Humbolt High School. She and her sister, Laurel, enjoyed a close relationship growing up. Doris married the love of her life, Earling Nelson in 1951. Katherine was born in 1953 and the family moved to Casper in 1955. Doris worked at Memorial Hospital of Natrona County intermittently from 1955-1970. During that time, Doris and Earl welcomed 4 more children to the family; Rita in 1956, Patricia in 1958, Mark in 1961, and Steven in 1967. In 1970, Doris went to work assisting Dr. Reasoner in his medical practice, which she did until her retirement in 1997.
There was no greater joy to Doris than her family. She was always surrounded by her children, grand-children, and great-grandchildren. She even had the joy of welcoming a few great-great-grandchildren to the folds of the family. She was truly a matriarch and was adored by all. She was quick to provide a meal, a helping hand or even a quiet prayer and always seemed to know how to provide precisely what was needed.
Doris was very active in St. Patrick's church and her faith and spirituality was a gift. She served in many capacities at St. Patrick's, belonging to various groups and committees throughout the many years she worshiped there.
She was a very creative woman with a true talent for painting and writing. She enjoyed taking painting and writing classes at Casper College and was active in the Casper Writers Group and Casper Fine Arts.
She had many close friends she enjoyed spending time with. Her later years were spent at Garden Square Assisted Living where she felt she had gained an extended family. She truly enjoyed her life there.
Doris is preceded in death by her beloved Earl in 1986, her parents, her daughter Rita, granddaughter Tamy, and great-grand daughter Kellie. She is survived by her sister Laurel (Roger) Medin of Minnesota, daughters; Kathie (Doug) Holt of Las Vegas, Nevada and Patty Johnson of Casper, sons; Mark Nelson and Steve (Jan) Nelson of Casper. She is also survived by the loves of her life, the scores of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren she was blessed with.
A Rosary was held in December.
Please join the family in honoring Doris at a Mass on Saturday July 13th at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Casper at 10:00 am. Reception to follow at the Church.
