MILLS -- Funeral services for Donna Rita Claney, 64, will be held Friday, Nov. 2, 2007, at 2 p.m. at Newcomer Family Funeral Home in Casper with Pastor Harold Bradshaw of Highland Park Community Church officiating. Interment will be in Wyoming Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m.
She died October 25th at her home in Mills.
She was born Dec. 6, 1942 in Muskogee, Okla., the daughter of Harry Francis and Janet Lee (Orr) Willis.
During her youth she moved frequently with her family, eventually settling in LaCrosse, Kan.
While living in LaCrosse, she met Robert E. Claney and they married in Hoysington, Kan., on May 8, 1964.
She traveled throughout the western United States with her husband and young children, eventually settling in Mills in 1973, where they made a home and raised their family.
In Mills, she and her husband owned and operated Shamrock Drilling for a number of years. At the time she was a stay at home mom and bookkeeper for the company. Summer months were often spent traveling with the family in the oilfield.
A very loving mother, she was very active in the lives of her children, being involved in the Mills PTA, Den Mother for Cub Scouts, etc She was also involved in many civic activities in Mills including the clean-up committee and town council.
After closing their own business, Donna worked for many years as secretary for Memorial Gardens Cemetery and later for W.E. "Bill" Sauer Co.
She was extremely family oriented and loved to be surrounded by them. She very much enjoyed working in her yard with her children and grand-children. Genealogy was one of her past-times.
During her travels, she made friends wherever she went and remained in contact with them to this day. She never met a stranger, and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years; one daughter, Janette "Pete" Soper and husband; one son, Robert "Buddy" Claney and wife, all of Casper; her brother, Bob Willis of Baxter, Tenn.; three sisters, Carol Ellis of Missoula, Mont., Francis "Tiny" Tharpe of Omaha, Ark., and Anna Johns of West Plains, Mo.; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepfather.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mills VFW Post #10969 or the American Heart Association of Wyoming.
Newcomer Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
