Donald Martin

Donald Seldon Martin, age 82, died at his home in Glenrock, October 17, 2008 from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Donald was born June 20, 1926 in Glenwood, MN to Florence & Sel Martin. Don grew up and attended schools in Glenwood, enjoying ski jumping and ice fishing. He then joined the US Navy during WWII. After the service he moved to Newcastle WY where he met future bride Shirley Cool and they were married in Rapid City, SD December 22, 1949.
They moved to Glenwood MN for a short time before moving to Rock Island, IL where they raised 3 children. In 1970 Don retired from Dohrn Transfer Co after 20 years service as the Head Dispatcher. They then purchased Shawnee Supply in Shawnee, WY which Don & Shirley operated together for the next 34 years. Shawnee Supply housed the local Post Office, of which Don was the Post Master. Don was also a firefighter with the volunteer Fire Dept. and drove the local school bus. Don enjoyed lapidary work, fishing, hunting and socializing with his many friends who stopped by the store for a cold beer.
Don enjoyed spending time with his family especially the grandchildren. They sold the store in 2004 and moved back to Glenwood MN to retire again. After the passing of his wife Shirley in 2006 Don returned to Wyoming to live with his daughter.
Don is survived by his daughters, Donnie June (Thorvan) Patten of Glenrock, WY, Kathleen Martin of Glenrock, WY and Cynthia (Mel) Abels of Bethany OK; grandchildren Nicole ( Derek) Eager of Glenrock, WY, Angela (Nick) Richards of Wixom, MI, Brett and Chase Fifer both of Ypsilanti, MI, Karlene Martin of Flint, MI,; great grandchildren, Mason James Eager of Glenrock, WY, Miranda Victoria Martin of Flint MI, and Baby Richards of Wixom, MI; siblings, Darlene Robinson, Gary (Donna) Martin, and Steven Martin all of Glenwood MN, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Shirley, one son Donald Martin Jr and sister Lorraine VanVickle.
