Don Sutter was born in Roswell, CO February 12, 1927 and grew up in Colorado Springs, CO. In 1944 Don joined the United States Navy and was discharged in 1946 during World War II. After active duty Don started his apprenticeship as a brick mason in Colorado Springs and continued in the masonry business throughout his life. In 1946 Don married Virginia Dunmyer, they had 5 children: Ron, Bill, Connie, John, and Donetta.
In 1960 Don moved to Cheyenne WY and started a masonry business. In 1969 Don moved to Rock Springs, WY where he met and married Lillie Faye Griffith, they lived in Rock Springs until both retired and Don sold his business, D.A. Masonry to his son John in 1991.
Don and Lillie moved to Hanna, WY where they spent their summers. They purchased winter homes in Big Water, UT and Casa Grande, AZ. In 2010 Don and Lillie moved to a senior living center in Powell, WY and in 2014 they moved to Casper, WY.
Don loved the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. While living in Big Water he met friends that had a passion for hunting arrowheads. They also were proficient in flint napping (making arrowheads, spear points and knives). Don's passion was to reproduce arrowheads, he did this until his arthritis would no longer allow him to continue. Don passed his knowledge and skills of working with the rocks and chipping to his son John who is continuing with the craft.
In Oct of 2014 Don was able to go antelope and deer hunting. He shot a 4 point mule deer and it was the highlight of his hunting life. In his last days he wanted a photograph of his deer hung above his TV in the bedroom so he could look at it.
Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He tried to teach all that right was right and wrong was wrong. He always said that if you believe in something stand up for your beliefs. If you were wrong, admit it and move on.
His memory will live on through his wife Lillie Faye and five children, Ron and Jean Sutter of Cheyenne, WY, Bill and Debbie Sutter of Casper, WY, Connie Sutter White of Greenville, SC, John and Carla Sutter of Rock Springs, WY, and Donetta Milner of Greenville SC.
