CASPER -- A private gathering for family and friends of Don Kay Tipton Jr., 44, will be held at a later date.
He died Jan. 19, 2008, at his home.
He was born Sept. 18, 1963, in Ventura, Calif., the son of Don Kay Tipton Sr. and Carol Ann Pomerinke.
He graduated from Kelly Walsh High School in 1981.
He had a life-long interest in herpetology, specializing in venomous animals. He was involved in training various law enforcement agencies throughout the region.
He worked a lot with the Casper College biology department, doing research and educational seminars throughout the region.
He rescued and rehabilitated local reptiles and provided local TV and radio stations with educational segments, including a PBS special.
He held a 3rd degree black belt in Kenpo and later became an instructor. He enjoyed black powder shooting and bow hunting.
He will be truly missed by all of the lives he touched.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn Jeanine Tipton, Casper; a son, Ryan Taylor, Casper; his mother, Newberg, Ore.; his father of Casper and a brother, David Beau Tipton, Cody.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
