Don King Parker, of Casper, WY, passed away peacefully on November 26, 2014. He is survived by his children, Rex Galen Parker (Karen), Mark King Parker (Waiva), Sally Ann Parker; his grandsons, Brandin King Parker, Ryan Keith Parker, Dane Michael Parker; his great-grandson; and his sister Marjorie Jewell Dunn. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin Middleton Parker and Blanche Magara Leatherman; three brothers, Rex Omar Parker, Robert Marvin Parker, Patrick Arnold Parker; his sister, Billie Juanell Rodgers; and two wives, Mildred and Edith.
Don was born on November 4, 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas; and educated in Hutchinson, Kansas. He graduated from Hutchinson High School and then joined the United States Navy in 1948. He served 23 years with the Navy rising to the rank of Chief. He served tours during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. His primary service was as a Sonar Technician on destroyers. During his 23 year career he served on the submarines USS Caiman and USS Scabbardfish, the submarine rescue ships USS Greenlet and USS Skylark, the destroyers USS Porterfield, USS Wedderburn, USS Hollister, USS Thomason, and USS Mason.
Following his retirement from the Navy, Don attended Kansas State University, where in 1973 he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Soil Conservation. After his graduation he moved to Casper where he resided for the remainder of his life.
Don was life long bowler, participating in multiple leagues in Casper at the Eagle Bowl, El-Marko Lanes, Hilltop Bowling, and Sunrise Lanes. He was also very involved in numerous church and religious activities, as well as the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the American Legion.
Services will be held at the Oregon Trails Veteran Cemetery on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. website- www.nmcrs.org in Don Parker's name.
