Dixon Robert Boyles

November 22, 1949 — August 28, 2019

Dixon Robert Boyles was lifted into the arms of his Savior on August 28, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. At the time of his passing, his beloved wife Cordie was "eyelash to eyelash" with him and asked him to remember her smile because she would be smiling when he saw her again in heaven.

Dixon (sisters call him Bob) was born on November 22, 1949 in Newport News, Virginia into a military family. His father, an Air Force colonel, took the family to live in England and Germany with visits throughout Europe. As a young man Bob enlisted in the USAF and served with distinction in Vietnam as an aircraft mechanic and in special operations. His attention to detail kept jets flying and pilots safe. After discharge from the active duty he continued service as a member of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard at Willow Grove NAS, PA. He retired at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant in December 2003 after 34 years of doing what he loved.

It was in Pennsylvania that he met his love and soul mate, Cordie Lyon. In her he recognized a woman of incredible intelligence, strength, capability. Together they were an adventuresome couple who served together several times in Kuwait. Bob longed for the wide-open spaces of the American west and after many visits they decided Douglas, Wyoming was the perfect place for them. It was the people of Douglas who won his heart. He found folks down to earth, patriotic, caring. He loved to share stories of his life in Douglas. "I went to the post office to mail a letter and found myself in there for a half hour just talking to my neighbors. It was fantastic." "Last week we all showed up at the rail yard and watched westerns on a canvas screen. It was fantastic." "It's winter here and Cordie and I are going out to help our neighbors feed their livestock. What a fantastic experience." "This morning I'm going down to the church to work on a light, the plumbing, shovel the sidewalk…what a fantastic opportunity." Bob thought most everything about Douglas and his neighbors was just plain "fantastic!"

Probably the most wonderful unexpected joy of life in Douglas occurred on a Saturday morning in July of 2017 they found a tiny, scrawny kitten in the yard. When the kitten was still hanging around on Sunday, Bob's heart began to melt and knew that it had to be fed and bathed. They planned to take it to the animal shelter on Monday, but in the meantime the bond grew and it was clear that this little guy had found a forever home. Bob would say that no animal ever liked him, so much to his surprise, the cat loved him and they were best buddies. Boeshane was with Bob to the end.

Dixon lived an incredible life. Always a gentleman, strong, generous, loyal and determined to do everything well. He was multi-talented and could fix anything; he was a mentor, teacher, adventurer, cook, cat lover and so many other things. He is survived by his wife, Cordie; daughter, Devon; two sisters, Susan and Carol and of course, his beloved Boeshane. He was predeceased by his parents, Jean Bauer Boyles and Dixon Raymond Boyles.

A celebration of his life and love for his neighbors in Douglas will be held at 10am, Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Douglas Cemetery.
