Dean was born in 1924 in Columbus, Ohio- an only child. He completed High School in Columbus and became an Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force and became a B-25 pilot. Based in Italy, he flew 3 missions before the war ended.
He returned to Ohio State on the G.I. bill and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Petroleum Engineering. He spent 36 years in the oil business in Casey, IL., Billings, MT., Oklahoma City, and Casper. He was a past President of the Petroleum Club. After he retired, he became an avid golfer-playing over 100 rounds a year at Casper Country Club for over 20 years.
He and Laverne raised 3 boys and he was active as a Father coaching baseball and was President of Babe Ruth baseball while his sons played. In that capacity, he accompanied his son, Ron, a pitcher for the State Champion Babe Ruth Team, to Ketchikan, Alaska for the regional tournament.
Dean traveled widely to see his sons and grandchildren who reside in Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. He even traveled to Hong Kong to visit his son, Phil, when he was working there.
Dean is survived by Laverne, his wife of nearly 69 years, his three sons; Ron (Mary Anne), Randy (Debbie), Phil (Arlene). He is also survived by grandchildren Ben (Tammy), Peter (Dasha), Jeff, Erin, Brian, Garrett (Sheena), Jessy, Brent (Julie) and four great grandchildren; Kaila, Leah, Alex and Natalie, who will miss their Poppa Dean very much.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 4-6:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home. A Funeral Ceremony will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 24, 2017 at First United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Wyoming Hospice or to the First United Methodist Church.
