David Wallen

November 12, 1956 — June 7, 2014

David A. Wallen, 57, of Glenrock, Wyoming went home to be with his Lord and Savior on June 7, 2014. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He had battled lung cancer since September, 2013.

David was born November 12, 1956 in Amarillo, TX to Robert E. Wallen and Marjorie Faye Penton Wallen. David moved to Casper in 1959 and then to Boulder, CO in 1962. He returned to Wyoming in 1968 and spent time with his sister Della before making his home with his sister Donnie in Riverton, WY in 1969. The family moved to Casper in 1971 where David attended school. David graduated from NCHS in 1974 and joined the Navy shortly thereafter. He left the Navy after 2 years and went to technical school in Boulder, Colorado to study computer programing. He was not satisfied with job opportunities available to him after finishing his schooling and he decided to reenlist in the Navy.

While stationed in the Philippines, David met the love of his life, Tina (Justina). He was later stationed in Guam, USA where he and Tina were married on February 13, 1984. David was stationed in Hawaii in 1993 and retired from the Navy in 1998 while living there. He then went to work as a guard for The United States Customs and Border Protection in Honolulu and retired from there in 2010. He decided at that time to come home to Casper. He purchased a home in Glenrock, Wyoming and obtained employment as a security guard at the Dick Cheney Federal Building. He worked there until April of 2014.

David was a member of the National Rifle Association, North American Hunting Club, Gun Owners of America and was a supporting member of the United States Concealed Carry Association. He enjoyed going to the shooting range, and looked forward to going hunting in Wyoming. He had received a Diploma for Professional Locksmithing and another for Advanced Locksmithing in 1995.

David loved music and loved to sing. One year for Christmas his wife bought him a home recording system. Over the years he recorded hundreds of CD albums. His favorite flavor of music was country; however he could sing almost anything from The Beach Boys to Johnny Mathis to George Jones and every genre in between.

David is survived by his wife Tina of 30 years; sisters Donnie Jo (Kevin) Ludiker and Della Schrader of Lusk, Wyoming; nephews Roger (Sabrina) Gunzenhauser, and Reuben Large; niece Joy Mitts, all of Casper, WY and his Uncle Hugh Penton. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the Philippines who have expressed great sadness at his loss. David was proceeded in death by his parents, his niece Michelle Burgien and uncles Jack Penton and Bruce Penton.

A private family only viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m. on June 13, 2014 at Newcomers Funeral Home to be followed by services at The Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery Chapel with military Honors.
