He died Sept. 7, 2007, at his home in Edgerton after a seven-year battle with cancer.

He began piano lessons at an early age, was active in junior high and high school bands and lettered in gymnastics, graduating from Grover Cleveland High School in 1978.

He entered the U.S. Army right after high school, serving for a time in Germany and receiving an accreditation for the Dept. of the Navy Chief of Naval Technical Training Service Schools, School of Music. He was honorably discharged June 11, 1984.
